  My wife and I looked for a church for over 20 years. Once a devout fundamentalist, I’ve changed. That’s why I liked being accepted “wherever I am on faith’s journey.” Bethel is open to me, science, and new thinking. I learn and grow. But what keeps bringing me back is action, not words. If you are ready to give back or help others you can get started at Bethel. They practice the teachings of Jesus every day. Now I am included in efforts to make a difference helping those in our community.

  I have been a member of Bethel UCC for over 40 years, so obviously, I think it is a great community of faith. The congregation has a pronounced social justice ethic that is backed up with action, including a food pantry, feeding program for the homeless, extra food for homeless students at Beaverton High School during school breaks, hosting a PFLAG chapter for Washington County, an ESL program, and regular social justice forums. It is a progressive Christian church that welcomes all people, no matter who you are or where you are on life's journey.

  This is a congregation that is truly service-oriented and interested in helping and loving everyone they encounter. It is refreshing to see a group of open-hearted folks working together to make the world a better and brighter place.

  When I moved to Beaverton, I asked coworkers for directions to a Church. Someone gave me directions to Bethel. It has been our family's Church home for over 25 years now. I love the openness and extravagant welcome for everyone, regardless of where they are on their personal journeys. I love the service work in the community as well as the larger world. This photo is of a labyrinth for people to walk and meditate. The food is then donated to those in need. Come for a visit!
